Summer 2005

Hello,

A Message from Our 2005/2006 Moderator:

I Still need you. You still need me. God is at work in our midst.

Some of you had the same privilege I had in May when GBC @ Willow Valley hosted a "Day Away'" for the "North of 55" gang. While I'm not officially north of 55 I snuck in to watch the mature crowd in the NAF drink in a day of fun, fellowship and inspiration. We need to honor our ministry people in our local churches who, in most cases, built the ministry (and probably the building too) that you now enjoy. We have tried to honor our Seniors at our church, but what they had opportunity to experience at WV was exceptional. Here was an opportunity for the NAF to do something no local church could accomplish alone. If your folks didn't get to this year's experience plan on next year. It's great.

Now that summer is here, camp has been a great part of how NAF churches can come together and help one another. I hope you and your church took advantage of this 'together' opportunity. Camp Conquest only happens when volunteer staff come together to help. I've heard from so many adults that camp does more for them then they do for the kids. We need you.

Of course there is BNYC for teens and EQUIP for adults. Check out the details.

One last thought. We have a few GBC's in our NAF who are struggling either financially, or because of pastoral transitions, or they are a new church-plant that needs resources and encouragement. Could your local congregation reach out to someone close to you over the summer months and give time, money or prayer support to specific needs? We all have needs, but when we forget ourselves and focus on others, God always takes care of us.

Remember, we need each other. Have a great summer.

L. T. Humberd, NAF Moderator

New Retreat Center Accommodations for NAF Adults

Are you looking for a place to host your elder's, men's, women's, couple's or single's retreats?

    Dear Pastors,

When I first arrived at Camp Conquest I asked what was needed in our district as related to camping. The overwhelming answer I got was "We want a nice place to host adult retreats."

Camp Conquest has partnered with a very nice adult retreat center - the National Christian Conference Center's (NC3) web site at www.nc3.org We are able to provide NAF GBC churches with a nice discount by booking adult retreats through Camp Conquest's office.

For more information, please contact Michael Gehlert, at Camp Conquest - 717.336.2541 mike@campconquest.org

There is not retirement from ministry...

The North of 55 cabinet met recently at the Worthington, Ohio Grace Brethren Church. They reviewed the wonderful opportunities of the Days Away. Almost 800 people will have attended the Days Away by the end of this year. The cabinet made plans for future year's giving themes and a special senior Sunday's emphasis, resources to share on the web and more.

They anticipate having a national North of 55 conference for three days at the end of April of 2007. Read more and meet the cabinet...

North of 55 Cabinet members pictured above are Lester and Bonnie Pifer, Dwight and Donna Stair, Bob and Dorothy Kern, and George and Evelyn Johnson

    Celebrating 25 Years of Ministry

    Ephrata Area Grace Brethren Church

Celebrate with them through these activities:

July 24 at 6:00 PM Community Vespers Outreach Service in the Grater Memorial Park in Ephrata. Several churches in the area have a 45 minutes service on Sunday evenings during the summer in the park, followed by a concert by the Ephrata Band.

July 25-29 Brownstown area Backyard Bible Club.

The first one was held in the Hopeland area and had an average of 22 children. The last night is Parent's Night and many of the parents came to see what the children learned throughout the week.

Their project this year is Wheel's for the World from Joni and Friends. Children learn about the ministry and how to relate to others with disabilities, with Bible stories shared about people who Jesus healed from their disabilities. Songs, crafts, games, snacks and prizes too.

August 8-12 Construction Zone VBS at the church.
