Northern Atlantic Fellowship Newsletter The GBNAF News
March 2005

Greetings,

A Message from Our 2004-2005 Moderator:

It is hard to believe that nearly a year has passed since our Northern Atlantic Fellowship Celebration at Willow Valley. This has been a positive year for our fellowship of churches. Following a multi-year evaluation process by our Strategy Committee, we finally voted to proceed to establish the position of a part-time N.A.F. Networking Coordinator. After the receipt of several strong applications, and following prayerful consideration, our Executive Committee hired Karl Moyer of Pottstown, PA to take the position. I must tell you that he has done a superb job in this initial year by pulling together much information and by launching our very own N.A.F. web-site. I am excited to see how he will build upon this good foundation in helping to encourage and unite our churches in obeying the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In my Moderator's address last March, I challenged us from Rev. 3:7-8 to look for doors which the Lord may open in 2004. I presented three key challenges: First, to expect open doors through prayer. Second, to explore the possibilities of ministry and outreach which God has uniquely given to our churches. And, third, to extend the Gospel by creatively seizing those opportunities which God has given us. I hope that all three have been realized in your life and by your church this past year.

Our incoming Moderator, Pastor Larry Humberd, along with our incoming Moderator-Elect, Pastor Jeff Hoffard, and the new Second-Moderator elect, with the able assistance of our Secretary/Treasurer Willis Frank, will lead us well in the coming year. See you in Myerstown at Celebration '05!

Pastor Jeffrey L. Dunkle - Moderator, 2004-2005

A Message from Our NAF 2005-2006 Moderator

    "A Cord of Three Strands"

"A cord of three strands" can not easily be broken. There are ministries that local churches can do best on their own. Do them. There are times and ministries that are better accomplished in cooperation with others. Such is our NAF. We are close enough to do several things together.

    I see these as priorities:

    1. When a local church is hurting or between pastors geographic close churches can come along side and physically pray with and meet with another local church for worship, fellowship, and encouragement. Is your GBC close to such a church that you can reach out? Do it.

    2. Church planting. I remember several years ago our church was not ready to plant another church. But Peter Smith was ready to start one in Pennsburg. He couldn't do it alone. We couldn't help alone. Several churches as well as NAM and GBNAM came together. I remember the boost it gave to our church to be directly involved in the church start, even though it wasn't "ours." We have several new church plants in the NAF, and one or two not quite ready for prime-time launch. Is your local church in a position to directly help one of these plants to take off? Do it.

    3. Camp Conquest. I remember as a kid growing up in the NAF summer camp was a spiritually significant experience. If each local church sent 3-4 adults to camp to help in the kitchen or as counselors for a week there would be more than enough staff to make summer camp spiritually significant in a child's life this summer. Do it.

    4. Teen ministry. There is something about becoming a teenager that demands more from a family, and a church. Local church youth leader, the Northern Atlantic Youth Fellowship wants to come alongside your ministry to help you to evangelize and minister to your teens. Consider contacting the NAYF about how your teens can help and be helped by making "a cord of three strands".

    5. Networking ideas. This newsletter is part of a new effort by the NAF to link churches together by sharing information, events, needs, and ideas. If you have input to help us be a stronger "cord" contact us through www.gbnaf.org or e-mail us at webmaster@gbnaf.org

Truly, a cord of three strands is harder to break. I do need you. You do need me. let's see what God can do through us together.

For the great NAF, Larry T. Humberd, Moderator

New Retreat Center Accommodations for NAF Adults

Are you looking for a place to host your elder's, men's, women's, couple's or single's retreats?

    Dear Pastors,

When I first arrived at Camp Conquest I asked what was needed in our district as related to camping. The overwhelming answer I got was "We want a nice place to host adult retreats."

Camp Conquest has partnered with a very nice adult retreat center - the National Christian Conference Center's (NC3) web site at www.nc3.org We are able to provide NAF GBC churches with a nice discount by booking adult retreats through Camp Conquest's office.

gathering a generation to become catalysts for Christ within church and culture

DRIVEN is a conference for young adults designed to call and equip a generation to grab onto their God- given purpose and mission.

The 19-29 years have been branded the "Lost Decade" time and time again. We know they are not spiritually disengaged, but maybe just disillusioned.

DRIVEN is gathering a generation to become catalysts for Christ within church and culture.
